Earlier this month I had the pleasure of covering the 3rd Annual Divas in Business Entrepreneur Expo held in Las Vegas, NV and it was nothing short of amazing. The speaker line up was dope, the marketing for the event was on point, and it was apparent that the founder Trish Drake had put in overtime to make this event happen. With all that being said it was still my first time attending an Entrepreneur Expo, so I was a little nervous. It might not seem like it, but I am an introvert at heart. I always have to pump myself up when it is time to mingle and be around people that I don’t know.
One of my good friends Jay Jay had been talking about wanting to attend the expo for months, so I couldn’t wait to invite her to come with me. On top of that another one of my blogger boo’s Brittany from Events by Kirk was also able to cover the event.
Yep, I cheated and brought my friends with me so I didn’t have to feel as awkward as a I would’ve felt being by myself. BUT, I will say that we networked and made connections with other people outside of ourselves, and actually had fun doing it.
Selfies with me and my girl Jay Jay! Brittany was late LOL.

Expo Day 1
The expo was a two day event, and on the first day it was held at the New York New York Hotel & Casino. We were able to enjoy a continental breakfasting in the morning, and a Diva Happy Hour with light snacks and drinks in the evening. One of the sponsors was Melinda’s Hot Sauce, so we were all given three hot sauces to taste and take home. The way my stomach is set up me and hot sauce don’t really get along. I gave the bottles to a friend that I knew would appreciate that hot fire hidden in these bottles.
There was a total of six speakers, and I took away something from each one of them. They were very transparent about the journeys to entrepreneurship, and encouraged us as women to not be afraid to follow what God has placed on our hearts to do. I took some hard core notes from the speakers, so I will share the short version of a few of them below.
Pastor, and best selling author
1. Sometimes we don’t get the full benefit of what God has for us because we jump into things before they are ready. If you have to push the door open, it is not your door.
2. Stop letting your mind get overwhelmed with doubt.
3. Present yourself like you are already where you want to be.
4. Whatever you are dreaming you are supposed to do it. God is not a sike God. If He gave you the dream, you were made to do it.
Ya’ll, Kim is the truth! She was just so real, and has a great love for God and His people.
Speaker, author, brand developer, and Powerologist™
1. Do not compare, assume, or shrink yourself.
2. The feelings of fear and excitement have the same energy, the only difference is your mindset.
3. We as women have to get clear about who we are, and what we do so that we can strategically promote our strengths.
4. A lack of confidence leads to a lack of action. To be confident in something you have to study it, and master it.
Author, and Coach
- If it doesn’t evolve you then it shouldn’t involve you.
Leadership Consultant and an Empowerment Coach
- We have to take the time to refill ourselves
Keitaunna had some really cool mirror affirmations for sale. This was right on time for me, because self doubt tends to creep in on me more than I would like it to. It’s easier for me to critique the things I need to improve, rather than to compliment myself on all of the things I am great at. I bought the “I have greatness on the inside of me” affirmation, and stuck it right on my bathroom mirror as a daily reminder of who I am.
Global brand strategist, empowerment speaker, social media strategist
- Social media is business media. It is your opportunity to make your PayPal bling.
If you want to know how to get ahead with live video streaming Shade is your girl. I’ve been following her for a while on social media, and I consider her to be one of the queens of periscope. After the conference we had the pleasure of showing Shade some Vegas hospitality by taking her around the strip. Being a Las Vegas native I don’t go to the strip often, every so often its fun to be in the mist of the craziness that happens down there.
Award winning wedding planner
I liked the fact that Andrea is unapologetic for who she is. She dropped some really good gems about understanding that there are no days off when representing your brand.

Expo Day 2
The 2nd day of the expo began with having a spa day sponsored by Neiman Marcus. We received complimentary facials, makeup, and mini massages. Most of the beauty associates were very kind and informative about the products. There was one asscoicate that just didn’t seem happy to be at work that day, in spite of that we still had fun. I must have been having too much fun, because I forgot how upscale Neiman Marcus is. I had to blink twice at the price tag of the cosmetics.
After getting our makeup done we walked around the mall to kill time until it was time for lunch.
We met the rest of the ladies back at the Neiman Marcus Cafe for lunch, and I must say I was pretty impressed with the food. The bread (pictured below) was the bomb. I wanted a second piece but I didn’t want to come off as greedy LOL. For our meal we had a shrimp, rice, and hummus spread on pita bread.
Jewel Tankard was our last guest speaker. She is known for her role on the bravo TV show Thicker Than Water. I have never watched the TV show, so I wasn’t really familiar with her. After Jewel began talking I realized that she was more than just a reality TV star. Jewel is a savvy business woman, and doesn’t mind putting others on. She gave us ALL of the tea on wealth building. According to the internet Jewel has a net worth of 5 million dollars. Yep, you heard me correctly.
Overall, I had a really great time. I am looking forward to the 2018 expo that will take place in Las Vegas again.
